Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

You have an million questions on what Sir Football is and what we have to offer! Let's get them answered!

knight with question marks
Q

What is Sir Football?

A

Sir Football is a feature-rich service that hosts recreational fantasy football leagues with flair and innovation. We offer 12 fully-original game modes that elevate the usual fantasy football experience with new scoring variants. For those seeking fantasy football with conventional scoring rules, we also offer Garden Variety leagues.

Tired of paywalls and incessant subscription pricing? So are we. That's why Sir Football is free to play. The current plan is to add private league support in 2025 with a setup fee paid only by the commissioner before the start of the season. Our purpose is to keep you close to the action. Q

What are the basic rules and league structure?

A

League and Team Structure: All Sir Football leagues currently have a 12-team format. Except for Squid League (which uses a weekly elimination mode), a league is divided into two divisions of 6 teams each. Each team has a 15-man roster consisting of QB1, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, TE1, FLEX, K1 and DFST1 (defense/special teams) starting slots and 6 bench slots. Any players dropped are placed on waivers that are processed twice a week on Tuesday AM and Thursday AM.

Playoffs (excluding Squid League): At the end of NFL week 14, the top seed in each division receives a playoff spot and a first-week bye. Four wildcard teams based on best record (with total season points as a tiebreaker) also qualify for the playoffs. Playoffs start NFL Week 15.

Scoring: Putting aside all game mode variants, the core scoring rules are pretty ordinary. One thing that is a little different is points allowed (PA) by your fantasy defense. It's evenly scaled and has a little more importance in Sir Football. A shutout is worth 12 points.

More Info: See the Rules section of each game mode for more information. (Back to top)

Q

The season already started! Can I still play?

A

Most definitely Yes! Even after all leagues have drafted, you can claim an unowned Robo Team to take control and play. The claim period starts NFL opening week and runs through NFL Week 14. We believe this pick-up-and-play approach is vital to introducing newcomers to fantasy football and gives busy fantasy owners options as the NFL season progresses.

The claim of a team is executed in a blind manner. There's no telling which fantasy players you'll inherit or how good the team's win-loss record will be when you take control. (Back to top)

Q

Do you have Points Per Reception (PPR) leagues?

A

Yes. There are PPR variants available for most of our leagues. The exceptions are Barstool Bingo and Paydirt, which have scoring systems that PPR does not apply to. (Back to top)

Q

What are the fantasy draft dates and times?

A

For 2024, draft dates are scheduled in intervals beginning July 30 and concluding September 3. Draft times are staggered from 7AM CST to 11PM CST daily. There are no in-season or mid-season drafts in Sir Football. We instead offer the ability to claim unowned Robo Teams that have already drafted.

Drafts will always occur at their scheduled date and time regardless of how many human owners are present in the league. The Draft room will open approximately 30 minutes before the listed draft date and time.

If you missed out on the draft experience, you can still do so via solo Mock Draft which we intend to keep open all season long. (Back to top)

Q

How can I prepare for my draft?

A

There are three great ways to get ready for your draft on Sir Football:

  1. Edit your Pre-Draft Player Rankings. You’ll be able to setup and maintain separate lists of player rankings for Standard and PPR. For each, you can order your Top 40 players (regardless of position) and manage the order for each fantasy position: QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DFST. The default ranking order loaded is based on Average Draft Position (ADP). All ADP values used and shown are based on industry-wide values obtained from our stats provider (they are not specific to Sir Football). We’ll import the latest ADP values/default rankings many times during the NFL offseason, but the player rankings for your user account will be preserved and will not be altered by these updates (unless you request them to be reset). You can also export your rankings to CSV (comma-separated values) format.
  2. Edit your Pre-Draft Settings. We’ve implemented a useful group of settings that will come into play if you’re not able to make your draft or have unexpected interruptions. These include:
    • Your draft preference for the first 3 rounds. You can enter the positions you want to draft or BPA (best player available).
    • Depth priority values for QB, RB, WR and TE positions.
    • A roster construction tool to specify the number of players to draft at each position.
  3. Mock Draft. Try out a mock draft to get a feel for the Sir Football draft interface and practice drafting with your rankings loaded. This is a solo mock draft and you’ll be drafting against 11 computer owners. You can choose the scoring type (Standard or PPR), your draft position and the draft timers (in seconds) before beginning the mock draft. Results are discarded once the draft is complete. Mock Draft will be available all year long so that new Sir Football users can check out the draft interface.

Q

Is there a mobile app?

A

There is no Sir Football mobile app, and there never will be. However we will be improving our browser-based support for mobile phones and other devices so you have greater flexibility for playing Sir Football on the go. We're hoping to make progress and introduce some of this in 2025. We will keep you posted on further updates. (Back to top)

Q

What do I need to play?

A

All leagues in Sir Football are currently free-to-play. All you'll need is a serviceable laptop/desktop computer and Internet connection.

For the best playing experience on desktop, we recommend using a wide browser window, with 1366 pixels being the bare minimum and 1400-1920 providing the best experience. You can read about Sir Football and its products from any device, but you cannot use tablets or mobile browser to login and play. Browser-based gameplay on all devices will be coming in the future. (Back to top)

Q

What is the Locker Room?

A

The Locker Room is your landing page after you log in. It's the central hub and your "crib" for playing Sir Football. All teams that you control are listed in the Locker Room. The Side Quests mini-game is also a part of the Locker Room. All trophies and crowns you've earned are available in the Locker Room to admire your accomplishments. (Back to top)

Q

What is a Robo League?

A

A Robo League is a 100% free-to-play fantasy football league. Try out all the aspects of Sir Football: the draft, the different game modes, roster management, scoring rules and so on. Robo Leagues are synonymous to "public leagues" offered by other fantasy football providers. When you play in a Robo League, you and other human owners are completely anonymous. You may also be playing against "Robo" teams that are fully controlled by the computer. You can take part in a 15-round draft as part of a Robo league. If drafts are already complete, you can still claim an unowned team in a Robo League. Trades are not present or permitted in Robo Leagues, which do not have a commissioner.

Important Note: If you fail to visit your Locker Room for 21 days or longer, you may lose control of your teams (except for any teams put on Robo Pilot). This is done to keep leagues competitive and ensure there are not a high number of dead teams in them. (Back to top)

Q

What is a Robo Team?

A

A Robo Team is fully controlled by computer logic. It can draft and make roster moves - just not as intelligently as a savvy human owner would. Robo teams cannot claim players on waivers, nor execute Deferred Replacements. Robo Teams fill the void if you there aren't enough human owners to fully populate a Robo League. Robo Team logic also takes over if a human owner elects to leave their team. Robo teams can be identified by looking for the "r-" prefix on their team abbreviation. They also use silver robot avatars. (Back to top)

Q

How can I play with my friends?

A

Once you join a league, you will see a referral code on your Team Home page. Share this code with your friends so that they can join you. The following applies for the referral code process:

Q

What is an Avatar?

A

An avatar is a small graphic that can be used to personalize and distinguish your fantasy team. Each fantasy team and user account on Sir Football has its own avatar. Robo Teams use silver robot avatars with football helmets. Avatars for User-owner teams default to various colored armored knights. Once you create or take control of a team, use our avatar library and change your avatar as desired to fit your fantasy team name and personal preference. The library contains over 1000 avatar images to choose from. They are grouped in categories such as Animal Mascots, Bobbleheads, Cheerleaders, Halloween and so on. (Back to top)

Q

Can I add my own Avatar?

A

No, you must choose an avatar from our provided Avatar library. For decency and security reasons we can't allow owners to upload/link their own images. (Back to top)

Q

What is a Private League?

A

A Private League is one created by a human commissioner that can only be joined when users receive and accept an invitation from that commissioner. If there aren't enough human owners at draft time, the remaining spots will be filled by Robo Teams.

Private leagues are not available yet. The current plan is to add them to Sir Football for the 2025 season. (Back to top)

Q

Why is Sir Football limited to 12-team leagues?

A

In order to provide many different game modes and keep our processing of drafts and scorecards manageable, we opted to go with a 12-team league format universally. A 12-team format strikes a balance between 8-10 team formats (where it sometimes feels like there is too much talent to roster) and 14+ team formats (where scrubs find their way into starting lineups more often than you like). That said, we do realize that other owners do prefer bigger or smaller leagues, or perhaps play with a specific group of friends that makes moving to a different league size difficult. We may accommodate other league sizes in the future based on demand. (Back to top)

Q

What is Sweet Spot?

A

Sweet Spot is a mini-game where you select a QB, RB, WR and TE each week and use this micro lineup to try to hit a specific fantasy point total. For more information, visit our Sweet Spot info page. (Back to top)

Q

What are Side Quests?

A

Even if you don't play fantasy football, you can complete side quests! It's a mini-game that you can play with the whole Sir Football community. During each NFL week, there will be 9 questions shown as 9 quests. For more information, visit our Side Quests info page. (Back to top)

Q

I won my league! What do I get?

A

Each game mode has a virtual trophy associated with it. For each championship you win, a virtual trophy added to your account. The trophies and crowns you have won can be seen in your Locker Room. (Back to top)

Q

What is Deferred Replacement?

A

Deferred Replacement is a roster management mechanic that is unique to Sir Football. With the NFL now regularly incorporating Thursday games on a frequent basis, the period of time to setup your roster during the week is much shorter, making it a bigger challenge to "stream" (repetitively replace) players on your roster. To help with this, Deferred Replacement allows you to lock in a player that you want to add to your roster not for this week, but for the following week.

How it works: Each Thursday morning, the Deferred Replacement mechanic becomes available. From then until Tuesday AM, choose a starting roster slot and reserve a free agent or player currently on waivers that you'd like to add to your team for the next week. If that current roster slot is occupied, you are also committing to lock that player in for this week's action and then drop them as next week begins. Keep in mind that using the Deferred Replacement mechanic will lock the roster slot, and unlike waiver claims, this decision cannot be undone.

In a nutshell, Deferred Replacement allows you to add an available player to your team for next week, and put that player on reserve so no other team can acquire him (if he's not on waivers). Because it locks the roster slot and cannot be undone, there are drawbacks you need to consider when using it. (Back to top)

Q

What is player "caliber"? How is it calculated?

A

Player "caliber" is shown by a player's name and is indicated by a series of pearls (). Caliber ranges from 1-5 pearls. Five pearls indicates the player is one of the top available players at the position he plays, while one indicates a low-quality player at his position who is expected to contribute minimal fantasy points on a regular basis. From NFL weeks 1-3, the caliber of a player relies on latest/final pre-season standard system rankings used for drafting players. But from NFL week 4 onward, caliber is calculated by judging players at each position and ranking them based on the highest total of fantasy points per game during this season.

Caliber and ranks shown are based on half-PPR scoring. You should keep in mind with caliber that there is great emphasis on per game scoring. If a relatively unknown player or backup suddenly receives regular playing time and has an extraordinary week, they will be ranked very high using the "caliber" system. That does not mean that excellence will continue and this player could be a "flash in the pan". But by ranking them in this manner, it does provide emphasis on helping you find new players that are sleeper types who are quickly emerging during the season. (Back to top)

Q

Will there be more game modes?

A

Almost certainly. The current plan is to add 2 or more new game modes for each new NFL season. If you have game mode ideas and want to contribute, consider becoming a Patreon Guild Member. (Back to top)

Q

Do you have dynasty or keeper leagues?

A

No, not currently. There's a possibility we could support these types in the future based on community demand. (Back to top)

Q

Are there real-time updates for ongoing NFL games?

A

Updates are not real-time. But you should see updates to fantasy scorecards and league scores in less than 15 minutes after they happen in real life. This delay is due to bandwidth constraints and the computation power needed to recalculate results based on the many different game modes. This delay could be reduced in the future if we have the resources to do so. (Back to top)

Q

Do you offer Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) or betting?

A

No, Sir Football is setup for recreational fantasy football leagues only and those services do not fit in with our vision. But if you're fixing for action that resembles parlay a little, you may like Double Down, where you select one of your starters to receive 2x fantasy points. (Back to top)

Q

Do you have "best ball" leagues?

A

None of our game modes incorporate the best ball concept. Sir Football emphasizes conventional league play and season-long management of teams. That said, the Unsung Heroes game mode has a mechanic that is a cousin to best ball. The highest scoring bench player will have 2/3 of his fantasy point total added to total generated by your starting roster. (Back to top)

Q

How about Individual Defensive Players (IDP)?

A

Currently we don't have any plans to add IDP. But this could change based on popular demand. There are some nifty things we could do to jazz up IDP scoring! (Back to top)

Q

Do you provide fantasy football advice or sit/start tips?

A

No. There is a wealth of other content providers that offer timely fantasy football knowledge. Our focus at this time is on hosting recreational leagues. (Back to top)

Q

Can I customize my league?

A

For now, customization of rules and game modes are not yet present. If the resources and community demand eventually make it desirable to add customization options to Sir Football leagues we may pursue it.

Is Sir Football against league customization? It's complicated. We like the idea of minor customizations that are easily understood. We want to avoid complex ones that cause technical issues or confuse fantasy owners. (Back to top)

Q

It's a long season! What if I won't have time to play?

A

For this situation, we have a special feature called Robo Pilot. When you're on vacation or won't have time to update your team, you can toggle Robo Logic to manage your team while you're away. Pretty cool, right? (Back to top)

Q

What are Crowns?

A

In Sir Football, crowns are special achievements that you automatically earn when you play. There is a unique graphic for each crown that is earned, and your crown total is displayed in the top right corner of the page below your username. Some crowns are easy to come across, while others are quite rare!

There is no master list of crowns. They are "Easter eggs" that provide an element of surprise and add another social element to the game modes. Crowns can be humorous or ironic in nature. Some are based on cultural memes or themes from musical artists (including a few for the "Swifties"!). You may want to share them on Discord or social media when earned. Once logged in, you can view the crowns earned via the Locker Room.

More details: 1) Crowns are associated with the user and span fantasy teams and seasons. 2) Once a crown is earned, it is permanently associated with your user account and cannot be earned again if the same achievement condition happens. 3) Robo teams do not earn crowns. (Back to top)
